• Tortoise vs Turtle

    The Tortoise

I photographed TaLouie, and 8 year old Tortoise, the same time I shot the Bearded Dragon lizard recently. I am not sure I have ever been this close to a Tortoise and I know I have never looked at them this close. There really quite amazing animals to look at.

TaLouie is an 8 year old male. Tortoises are herbivores and eat dry grasses and must not get cooler than 60 degrees as they come from the grasslands and savannas of Africa. They are docile but like to burrow and as pets that means they dig straight through drywall. In Africa they can dig 30 inch deep and 12 ft long to cool off from the heat. TaLouie is roughly 1/2 the size of an adult. They can live to be well over 100.

    Tortoise vs Turtle

Tortoise vs Turtle, according to the San Diego zoo, the big difference between the two is that tortoises live on land, while turtles live in the water. Who new?

    The Very Cool Bearded Dragon

Okay I had a great time shooting this last portrait. This is Ziggy, a 5 year old Bearded Dragon, They are also known as a Pogona Vitticeps. Besides being beautiful in a cool prehistoric way, this guy was very friendly. He likes being held and was very curious when I stepped up close to the aquarium. Joey (the owner) said they make great starter lizards for this reason. Wikipedia said Bearded Dragons are a popular species among children because of their friendly and calm nature, and the relative ease of caring for them. And hey, you don’t have to take them for a walk everyday.

  • Arthur The Stray Dog

    This is a great story.

Arthur the Stray Dog adopted a Swedish Adventure Racing team in Ecuador.  After a chance encounter and a little free food Arthur decided that these guys where his pack.  He swam along their kayak, climb steep terrain and forged through knee-deep mud with them. He never left their side
